Free Glockenspiel sheet music to download

The Glockenspiel is a percussion instrument, which consists in a set of keys displayed as the keys of a piano. The player produces a sound by hitting the keys with mallets. It looks a lot like a xylophone, but unlike the latter, the keys are made of metal. It is thus a member of the metallophone family. Besides, the Glockenspiel is higher-pitched than the xylophone. The playing range covers two octaves and a half, from F5 to C8. The Glockenspiel is a transposing instrument, sounding two octaves higher than the written notes.

Classical composers wrote for Glockenspiel when they wanted bell instruments in their piece. In the famous opera The Magic flute by Mozart and in the oratorio Saul by Handel, the Glockenspiel can be heard. This instrument is also widely used in popular music – The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix for instance.
